Trinkets and Treasure!

Visual stimulation is something that is totally essential in my life, and winter in the Windy City has no room for that. Movies and magazines in the winter are a necessity.

The other day my aunt Linda, invited me over for dinner and a movie. La Vie En Rose was her movie of choice. She has been on this totally ridiculous Edith Piaf kick for several months now. It's all she talks about! Linda is an amazing woman, I'm very lucky to have her in my life. She's 60 years old and single. She lives in the perfect one bedroom Chicago condo. She is well traveled, very intelligent and an amazing story teller. Her taste is impeccable..decorating, fashion, movies, music..she has been a great teacher. The thing I love best about her is deep down, she is still 16 years old.

La Vie En Rose is no secret, but she for some reason I was not dying to see it.
Finally I did, and it was beautiful. It was so well done, the acting, cinematography, the entire production was great! Marion Cotillard did a outstanding job. Edith Piaf was such an amazing, talented and tragic woman of her time. She had such and incredible and powerful life force. I totally recommend this movie.

This weekend in Chicago was bone chilling!! I decided to lay low and work for a friend at the Chicago Merchandise Mart. One of my girlfriends owns a business called: Bliss. She represents 12 different women's accessories lines, and sells to boutiques across the Midwest. I was super impressed with her choice of lines, and also with her eager clientele.

Anyway, this weekend was a gifting show. I came across a line of women's accessories that were the most nostalgic, adorable, precious and fun I have seen in a long time. The company is called Bellissima. They specialize in high-end plastics that totally resemble the old fashion Bakelite/Lucite jewelry my grandma used to rock back in the day..and I mean that in the best way, granny-chic wa can call it! Anywho, All the plastic is imported from Italy, and the products are made in the US(even better). I adore this line, the pocket mirrors sold like hot cakes!!

The other day I decided to take a stroll through Wicker Park. I always hear of a store called: Language, but never made time to check it out. Well, I noticed "store closing" signs all over the windows...I decided to give it a gander.

The walls and fixtures were stark and boring, but the clothing was HOT. This was the perhaps the most impressive buying job I have seen in Chicago. Anyway, what really struck my fancy was an amazing pair of leather shoe covers, white with black snaps..totally dandy-esque.I wanted them so bad, I felt like Ann of Green Gables. I fell in love! I'm such a sucker for Edwardian style, but like everything else on sale...TOO DAMN SMALL (or big). The label was: Strumpets. Check em' out! so bad ass!

I just had to make note of this completely brilliant window! What a great idea, this is a small budget dream! These windows are Anthropology. Small, pink, balloon dogs (with matching yarn leaches) are connected to a bust form and on display in the window! Genius...Anthro always has the most crafty visuals. I am always so impressed with what they come up with!
